Handmade Wooden Bowls

This site is dedicated to the creative art of woodturning, which is the craft of shaping a block of wood on a spinning lathe, using hand tools to cut and form the wood into a creative design.

Turning wood dates back to the Egyptians when they began using hands and feet to manually power a lathe. The modern lathe began its development in Europe in the Fifteenth Century using the Eqyptian concepts as a guide to develop more modern techniques. Today lathes are powered by electricity and come in many different sizes and types.  The many different designs that are created are based on the creativity of the artist using solid blocks of wood or pieces called segments.

My philosophy is to artistically create

wooden bowls that are attractive, different, and also have a practical use.
